Autumn Wishlist Revisited

September 3rd, 2010 § 0

Ok, change of plan. There was no plan to begin with; still, we thought we wouldn’t go to cold and rainy Lithuania till at least March next year – would be too drastic to experience a ~40 degrees C temperature change. However, all circumstances lead to us returning in the beginning of October this year and I must say I feel sooo happy!  Miss my friends and Vilnius like hell.

Therefore, no sandals for Lithuanian A/W season :)

Was considering several outerwear options for autumn:

This wool boyfriend coat looks just like the one Carrie wore in Abu Dhabi, only warmer. Not sure it’s my thing though, as have boobs and everything, i. e. not so boyfriend type of bod.

I also loved this leo faux fur coat because of its vintage touch.

Finally, I ordered this amazing French Connection trench which is on the way to me:

I totally love the khaki and the design. This thing will be classy forever! There was a black option but due to a slight shiny effect of the material it looked somewhat S&M (“Who’s you mistress?!”).

I already have my Converse shoes; H&M boyfriends are on their way (will tell you later about this); I also couldn’t resist the Levi’s bargain the other day – it was twice cheaper than in Lithuania and the first pair I tried on fit me perfectly. That never happens to me, so I took it as a sign.

I’m still thinking of the Angelas. Pricey they are. Will browse for rubber booties some more and decide.

My mum’s knitting me a warm cardy and here’s a cutie I found on Vila’s website:

Great colours, arty shape.

I also need a small sweater, something like this from River Island:

Black velvet leggings would also be a good item to have in chilly weather:

Will keep you posted, friends!

The Perfect Pair

September 2nd, 2010 § 0

It was a miracle: I came, I saw, I tried on, they fit! First time in my life. The new pair of Levi’s:

Also wearing Ray Ban Cats, cobalt blue heli, Dom bag, black tee, Converse shoes.

Dom Bag

August 31st, 2010 § 2

Got this interesting shoulder bag at iberry souvenir shop. There are plenty of original bijouterie, small plastic Dom sculptures (that’s the huge yellow someone at iberry) in different colours, various other accessories and toys.

It’s a genuine leather reddish brown bag with a bright pink lining. I’m also wearing Ray ban Cats, some noname top, Jaspal shorts and fuchsia pink wooden heels.

iberry

In Chiang Mai, we mostly encounter ordinary people – waiters, shopkeepers, street vendors, market sellers etc. With all respect to this hard-working folk who is extremely friendly in this country, it is not our crowd back home. But we see them all the time and inevitably get the feeling everybody here belongs to the same social stratum. I often miss different faces, makeup, manners and appearances. Variety, so to speak.

It was a complete incident that we found this iberry place today. I felt like it’s a totally different Chiang Mai! Beginning with the exterior which I could shoot from every corner as wherever I looked there was something quite remarkable design-wise. It’s an ice-cream cafe and a small park in one, with sculptures and installations and the young generation of beau monde relaxing in an air-conditioned inside with their iPads and iPhones and DSLR’s and everything, while outside, at the tables scattered in a rather large and meticulously kept green area, tourists and locals have deserts and take pictures of each other here and there.

I hope you enjoy what I managed to capture:

From what I notice, Thailand is a country of contrasts: there are people who sleep on pavements and there are teenagers carrying Miu Miu bags and Blackberries. I don’t see middle class, there is no bridge between the rich and the poor. The former are looked up to, while the latter seem to be living their lives embracing who they are and smiling, smiling, smiling.

My New Converse

August 28th, 2010 § 3

When I brought them home and asked Augustas to tell me what he thought, he said: “You look like I’m just about to have sex”. Think cheerleaders and teenage porn. Or the nineties.

Apart from that, the sneakers are cute and comfy to me – never owned Converse before. In fact, there was a time I didn’t own flats at all :)

I’m also wearing D&G shorts, a bright blue blouse I got at sales, Ray Ban Cats, a bangle I got at Karen village and DiorKiss lipgloss.

Mon Amour Nouveau

August 24th, 2010 § 3

Excuse my French please – am one of those students who learn five words or phrases and eagerly use them wherever possible, often mistakenly :)

Anyway, I couldn’t sleep last night and Augustas seriously thinks I should stop browsing shoes in the evenings. Here’s what I discovered yesterday:

Moschino Angela rubber boots. I’m seriously considering buying as Lithuania – where we’re heading in several months – is a rainy place and this type of boots is the best choice during many months of  the year if you don’t want to spoil quality footwear in the spring and autumn showers. And mud. Yikes.

I remember bright yellow rubber boots I had in my early childhood. Parents tell me I just loved raving in rain water on pavements wearing them :)

Never owned rubber boots since then but I’m sure they oughta be stylish. Well, if you care to be stylish in the first place. And these black swans are precisely what I imagine myself wearing. Muddy. Marvelous.

My mum promised to knit me a cardy – something similar to this cosy one by See by Chloe – will be a perfect match!

Boyfriend’s Stuff

August 23rd, 2010 § 0

There’s this boyfriend trend now: boyfriend jeans, boyfriend shirt, boyfriend shoes… The funny thing is, I started literally wearing my boyfriend’s clothes and accessories. Why not? :)

Last week it was a watch, shirt, today I wore his jeans. Slim fit to him, boyfriend jeans to me :)

Also wearing my teal top, Lisbeth Dahl necklace, handmade bangle from Karen village and neon-fuchsia-wooden pumps.

Chanel on Screen

August 22nd, 2010 § 2

Beginning with the last weekend, I decided to find out what the cinema world has created about the most outstanding woman in the world of fashion. The first film I saw about her was in my childhood, Chanel Solitaire. Would love to see it again; however, the 1981 release is pretty hard to find.

There are several other films about the fashion giant and so far I’ve managed to watch Coco avant Chanel with Audrey Tautou, which all normal people saw last year. The idea of the movie was to picture the woman before she got famous and show what lead her to the worldwide acclaim. Audrey is lovable even when she plays a stubborn woman fighting with mainstream trends and manners. And Alessandro Nivola playing her love Arthur Boy Capel was the first man I’ve seen in a moustache I’d refer to as sexy.

To my mind, the success of the film lies in the famous biography it portrays, which will never seize to attract people, and in superb acting. It surprises me greatly how a rude and grumpy woman can be so charming. Of course, she’s witty and talented, therefore naturally ridicules her overdressed milieu.

And the way she was remaking clothes in the film? It felt so easy, she seemed to know what she as doing so well I started believing I could sew myself!

Thought maybe there were films about Chanel that showed more of her as a designer – will have to make time for that. What I already saw, is Chanel Coco & Igor Stravinsky about the already-famous designer’s affair with the Russian composer.

The beginning seemed promising as the Russian speaking actors talked without that funny accent they usually have in non-Russian productions. However, Mad Mikkelsen playing Stravinsky mumbled Danish Russian which was a bit, you know, inconsistent.

(By the by, to those who haven’t seen him starring in Adam’s Apples, it’s a must-see. Unless you don’t appreciate the Scandinavian humour which is hilarious. Oh, and the film has nothing to do with fashion.)

But the worst part of the movie was Anna Mouglalis, who may have been a success in her role as Simone de Beauvoir, but here, trying to portray a willful and independent woman, she looked more like a runway model who swallowed a very long stick and who thought her main job on the set was to walk like a model, talk like a model and not talk like a model. There are playful and artistic models who manage to impersonate just about anything – just to be clear I don’t have anything against them. But I felt very much disappointed as there was supposed to be electricity between the two characters, and I saw only a stiff overacting woman and a guy who looked a bit like Freddy Mercury.

Ok, there were ideas. Like, they had things in common: Stravinsky in the beginning was met with great disapproval for his music which was too modern at the time, and Chanel felt empathy as she also broke the rules and went against the flow. Chanel outrageously indulged in love affair with Igor in the eyes of his wife and kids because she stressed her independence and intention to do whatever she liked – remember her confession to Boy in Coco avant Chanel? She said she’d rather be a lover but never a wife who is left to do her boring chores and warm an empty bed? In this film, it is well depicted. Chanel took what she wanted. She also supported Igor as a composer, which was a big change in male and female roles at the time.

But everything in a film can be ruined by bad acting. Wonder why they chose Mouglalis? I know she’s Lagerfeld’s muse but does that make her good for the role? Not so sure.

Anyway, if you think otherwise, would love to hear about it :)
